the swiss army knife of asian brooms




…this is penyapu lidi (coconut-frond broom) which was, once upon a time, a very common item in malay households in malaysia
…it’s very versatile: a fly swatter, a cleaning utensil for hard-to-reach cobwebs in the ceilings, a mean of controlling recalcitrant animals, if waved in the direction of a person was the lowest form of insult…the spread of the utility bottom part is adjusted by twisting the handle bunch…and if chopped a foot from the handle becomes a very robust brush…and if a 6 foot-long pole is inserted in the handle, it becomes a sweeper a council worker use to tidy up roads with...


…this particular one was bought from the cobargo visitors centre, as you do at a tourist info stop, here at the south coast…
